Starting August 4, 2025, the Amazon seller feedback system will be streamlined, allowing customers to submit star-only ratings without written reviews. While this change aims to increase feedback volume, it presents both opportunities and challenges for sellers.

The New System

Amazon’s updated feedback process makes written comments optional, enabling customers to quickly rate their experience with just a star selection. The company expects this friction reduction to generate significantly more seller ratings, providing customers with more data points when making purchase decisions.

Positive Impact for Sellers

Increased Rating Volume: The simplified process should result in more frequent feedback submissions. Many customers who previously skipped leaving reviews due to time constraints may now participate with quick star ratings.

Faster Feedback Collection: Sellers can expect to accumulate ratings more rapidly, which is particularly beneficial for net new brands trying to establish credibility.

Better Conversion Rates: More ratings typically lead to improved conversion rates, as customers often prefer products and sellers with substantial feedback histories over those with limited reviews.

Potential Challenges

Limited Appeal Options: The most significant change affects dispute resolution. Sellers cannot appeal star-only ratings through Amazon’s standard Feedback Manager appeal process. Instead, they must use the more restrictive “Report a violation” system, which only addresses clear policy violations rather than potentially unfair or mistaken ratings.

Loss of Context: Star-only ratings provide no insight into what customers liked or disliked, making it difficult for sellers to identify areas for improvement or understand rating fluctuations.

Increased Rating Volatility: Without explanatory text, sellers may struggle to understand sudden drops in their ratings or address customer concerns proactively.

Strategic Recommendations

Proactive Customer Service: With less detailed feedback available, sellers should invest more heavily in preventing negative experiences through improved communication, faster shipping, and quality control measures.

Monitor Rating Patterns: Pay closer attention to rating trends and correlate them with specific products, time periods, or operational changes to identify potential issues.

Amazon Seller Feedback: Bottom Line

The Amazon seller feedback system simplification represents a trade-off between quantity and quality of seller ratings. While sellers will likely see more frequent feedback, they’ll have less information to work with and fewer options for addressing problematic ratings. Success in this new environment will depend on maintaining consistently high service standards and developing alternative methods for gathering customer insights.
